Mindfulness: A Practical Guide to Finding Peace in a Frantic World

THE LIFE-CHANGING BESTSELLER – OVER 1.5 MILLION COPIES SOLD

Authoritative, beautifully written and much-loved by its readers, Mindfulness: A practical guide to finding peace in a frantic world has become a word-of-mouth bestseller and global phenomenon. It reveals a set of simple yet powerful practices that you can incorporate into daily life to break the cycle of anxiety, stress unhappiness and exhaustion. It promotes the kind of happiness that gets into your bones and allows you to meet the worst that life throws at you with new courage.

Mindfulness is based on mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT). Co-developed by Professor Mark Williams of Oxford University, MBCT is recommended by the UK’s National Institute for Health and Care Excellence and is as effective as drugs for preventing depression. But, equally, it works for the rest of us who aren’t depressed but who are struggling to keep up with the relentless demands of the modern world.

By investing just a few minutes each day, this classic guide to mindfulness will put you back in control of your life once again.

This book is a little miracle. Or a big miracle – by the word little I was just referring to the fact that it does not have hundreds and hundreds of pages. It is an easy read and the meditations are short, well suited for a beginner. Despite its compactness (or because of it?) the book and cd offer all the essential teachings of mindfulness and some deeply touching stories.

What is the secret of succeeding like this? I believe it is the fruit of one of the main practices of mindfulness: compassion/ self-compassion. The authors have put themselves completely in the position of the reader and worked from that standpoint with their head and their heart.

Before I was using meditation for just relaxing – which is fine if that is what you most need. But now I feel I am growing. I am grateful for finding this book although I did not even know I was looking.

Best mindfulness book I’ve read!

I love this book – it’s easy to read, and the 8 week course makes it very easy to follow and helps you build mindfulness into your routine in a way that suits you. It does require a bit of commitment but I’ve found it worth it. The CD is really useful but you can also access the tracks for free online if you don’t have a CD player
